Attorney Specializing in Construction Law
He/Him · Houston, Texas

Ben Aderholt is a Houston-based legal educator and former attorney whose professional life reflects more than 50 years of dedication to the law. Over the course of his career, he built a reputation in construction law, business law, and bankruptcy, representing clients in demanding litigation and corporate matters. In recent years, he has focused on teaching Construction Law at South Texas College of Law, where he brings decades of courtroom and transactional experience into the academic setting. He completed both his undergraduate and law degrees at The University of Texas, developing the analytical discipline that would shape his career. Seeking a broader global perspective, he later pursued graduate study in international law, completing coursework toward an LLM in International Business Transactions at Lazarski University. Participation in an inaugural exchange program provided firsthand exposure to comparative legal systems and the structure of cross-border commercial regulation. Aderholt began practicing at Coats Rose, P.C. in Houston, concentrating on bankruptcy, creditor rights, and commercial litigation. His early work required careful strategy, financial analysis, and close collaboration with business clients facing high-stakes disputes. In 2002, he joined Looper Reed and McGraw, P.C., serving as a member of the firm for more than two decades. There, he handled construction claims, negotiated complex contracts, advised corporate entities, and worked on international commercial matters. Construction law became central to his practice. He counseled contractors, developers, lenders, architects, and engineers on drafting agreements, allocating risk, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. His experience included resolving disputes involving delays, payment conflicts, performance issues, and project management breakdowns. Through mediation, arbitration, and litigation, he sought outcomes that balanced legal obligations with practical business considerations. After retiring from active practice, Ben Aderholt devoted himself fully to teaching. For 13 years, he has taught Construction Law, emphasizing practical case studies, contract analysis, and strategic thinking. His classroom approach integrates lessons from business law and bankruptcy to provide a comprehensive understanding of project risk and financial structure. Throughout his career, he has maintained membership in the Texas State Bar and demonstrated a steady commitment to ethical standards, professional mentorship, and civic engagement.
