So this year my little girl started school. Five years old and loving life. Learning heaps and taking huge steps in every direction. Funny thing is, as parents our learning curve has been steeper than hers. What’s amazing about that to me is that both my wife and I are former teachers. Looking at education, classrooms and teaching from a different perspective is eye opening. Some of our ideas have been challenged, some of them have been confirmed and some of them are completely up in the air. We have been presented with challenges that to be honest we didn’t see coming. Something that has become clear though is that, IMO, many parents don’t fully understand the institution of school, schools, schooling and more importantly, don’t really understand their VITAL role in the education of their kids. I have thought about it a lot. Over the months I have come up with some theories about it all and have had some great conversations with people that have helped me understand all these issues, problems and challenges a bit better than I did before. The discussion about it all has been very constructive and I thought if more people got in on it education in this state and this country might get just a little bit better. With this in mind I have embarked on my blogging journey. My wife is going to laugh her arse off when she hears I have started a blog but everyone seems to be doing it. I might as well get in on it or be left behind.
