Rineke van Daalen

I am a sociologist, who worked at the Department of Sociology of the University of Amsterdam. My field of interest is broad: the social position of the middle classes in the 21st century (Omgaan met ongelijkheid. Over het oude leren en het nieuwe werken 2019); work of the middle classes (Gewoon werk. Over deskundigheid in het verwaarloosde midden, 2014); education and inequality (Het vmbo als stigma, 2010); children and their development, informal lunches as a collective arrangement at Dutch primary schools (Overgebleven werk. Kinderen tussen de middag op school, 2005); letters of complaint to government instititutions in relation to the welfare state (Klaagbrieven en gemeentelijk ingrijpen. Amsterdam, 1865-1920, 1987); changes in the model of home birth in the Netherlands; the use of autobiographical material as research source. My theoretical approach is a combination of interaction reserarch and figurational sociology. I work in the tradition of Norbert Elias, Johan Goudsblom, Abram de Swaan, Erving Goffman.
