I've lived in LA area for about 10 years and still hesitant to call this giant metropolis my home. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC, I have fond memories of growing giant sunflowers and pumpkins, and shelling peas with my grandparents. As an adult, I've had gardens in Maine, Vermont, Maui, Catalina and a few in California. My husband, David, and I have lived in our home for the past three years and each year we expand our gardens! As a teacher, I have summer's off although I've been busy with graduate school for the past two summers. This year I plan to spend it gardening, canning and cooking. My husband is really the chef in the family, and he enjoys taking in the city while searching for ingredients to complement our vegetables we grow. Lastly, we always have our Golden Retriever with us when we're outside. She's forever hopeful that we'll throw her ball for her, rather than incorporate it into our photos.
